Spiritual Senses (Spiritual Hearing)

He who has ears, let him here.
Something that was said by Jesus many times during His time on earth.
Spiritual Hearing does not mean physical hearing from our ears, but rather a deeper understanding of Gods inner truth in man. It involves understanding the things of God.

Jesus spoke in parables all the time. After He was asked why He talks like this, He said:

Matthew 13:10-15And the disciples said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables? He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them. For whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance. But whoever does not have, from him shall be taken away even that which he has. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not; nor do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which said, "By hearing you shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see and shall not perceive; for this people's heart has become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."

So if we know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, we would understand the parables of Jesus?
Those who listen to God and understand what Jesus said in His parables and when He spoke, are blessed! Yes, but surely we cant just LISTEN, but we have to DO as well!
Those who truly listen and DO what Jesus teaches, He will get more and more, whereas a person who listens and does not DO, will get everything taken away from them.
Very Often we, as humans, turn a deaf ear to Gods prompting/voice, and we choose to direct our "ears" to another direction, an earthly direction.

We often move our "ears"away from God because we don't trust that He will DO. We look at our current circumstances and not from our past spiritual experiences. We forget what God has already done in our lives and we look at our current situation and try to "sort it out" ourselves and ignore Gods prompting.

Galatians 3:2-5This only I would learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing of faith? (3) Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, do you now perfect yourself in the flesh? (4) Did you suffer so many 13

things in vain, if indeed it is even in vain? (5) Then He supplying the Spirit to you and working powerful works in you, is it by works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

Romans 10:17
Then faith is of hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

What this verse tells me is that we need to really understand the Word of God. Understand the teachings of Jesus, understand what God wants us to do. All of this is in the Bible. With this in thought, we need to develop a spiritual TRUST that what is in the bible is true.
We will then develop a faith that is so strong, it will be rewarded daily by God.
This faith that we develop results in Holy Obedience from us,a way of life and a way that God wants us to live.
So we see that salvation, receiving the Spirit, the supply of the Spirit and "working miracles among you" all result from this hearing of faith. This is a key to Christian living if ever there was one!
It is not just knowledge of God's Word that saves us, it must be combined with faith.

Hearing with faith is believing what God says so that you respond in some way such as calling on God or acting in obedience to a command. Jesus does a miracle and you give glory to God and ponder on what the miracle means. Jesus speaks a parable and you ask for the interpretation and 'get it'. The hearing of faith is having the inner conscience tuned to God's wavelength and ready to believe what God says. When the word of the Lord comes to us (via preaching, the Scriptures, our conscience etc) we can respond in a number of ways including the following:
Faithful-fully believing what God says will come to pass, and being obedient to it.
Unbelief-a flat out refusal to believe what God says, foolish mocking, scoffing etc.
Rebellion-deliberately doing the opposite of what God has said

The hearing of faith is the sure knowledge that God is true, no matter what appearances might be. It is hearing with your heart. It is staking yourself on the nature and character of God because something tells you, in an undeniable way, that this is where the true Truth is.
Satan tries all that he can to destroy this – through doubt, fear, apathy, hardness of heart, distraction, anxiety and making us forget God's goodness to us in the past.
We need to be determined to listen to God with faithful hearts, putting aside all worldly distractions and not being discouraged by life's circumstances. We need to remember God's goodness to us in the past so that we put today's troubles in the perspective of God's forever faithfulness. We need to meditate on His Word and His promises and we need to follow the example of those who have gone before us in the faith.
